Initial Oral Examination
Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, oral cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. We will also take x-rays, which include a panoramic x-ray, which shows all of your teeth and supporting bone structure in one view, and bite-wing x-rays for proper diagnosis of proximal decay of posterior teeth
From whitening to crowns, Dr. Toy is equipped to handle all your dentistry needs. To help you understand your options, we’ve included descriptions of some of our leading services on this page.
Dental Cleaning
A dental cleaning is a professional cleaning you receive from a dentist or dental hygienist. Cleanings should be performed every six months to prevent excessive plaque buildup. Plaque left untreated can lead to unhealthy gums and tooth decay. A routine dental cleaning should include scaling, root planing and polishing.
Scaling
This is the process of removing plaque and tartar from all tooth surfaces in a variety of methods, depending on the amount of plaque and tartar.
Crowns & Bridges
Crowns are synthetic caps, usually made of a material like porcelain, placed on the top of a tooth. Crowns are typically used to restore a tooth’s function and appearance following a restorative procedure such as a root canal. When decay in a tooth has become so advanced that large portions of the tooth must be removed, crowns are often used to restore the tooth to normal form and function.
Dental Implants
Implants are titanium structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. Implants are anchored to the jawbone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures. Toy Family Dentistry does not place implants, but we restore them with crowns, bridges and removable prosthetics.
Toothaches
Simple toothaches can often be relieved by rinsing the mouth to clear it of debris and other matter. Sometimes, a toothache can be caused or aggravated by a piece of debris lodged between the tooth and another tooth. Avoid placing an aspirin between your tooth and gum to relieve pain, because the dissolving aspirin can actually harm your gum tissue. More acute toothaches require scheduling an appointment.
Fillings
We use tooth-colored resin fillings for restoration of tooth-decay. These fillings typically last several years and are less prone to fracture than silver fillings. If you have a silver filling that is visible in your smile, we can replace it with a resin filling.
Dental Emergencies
An avulsed tooth or bitten tongue can cause panic in any parent, but quick thinking and staying calm are the best ways to approach such common dental emergencies and prevent additional unnecessary damage and costly dental restoration. This includes taking measures such as application of cold compresses to reduce swelling, placing a recently lost tooth in milk or water and of course, contacting our office as soon as possible.
TMJ Treatment
Most people with temporomandibular disorders have relatively mild or periodic symptoms which may improve on their own within weeks or months with simple home therapy. Self-care practices, such as eating soft foods, applying ice or moist heat, and avoiding extreme jaw movements (such as wide yawning, loud singing, and gum-chewing) are useful in easing symptoms.
